Feathered And Quacking

How do I finish level such-and-such? Try it a few more times. All of the levels in Ducks and the official add-ons are possible. If you still have no luck, you'll probably be interested in the Ducks Solution Guide. There's also a chance that someone might have asked about the level in the Ducks forum... and if not, you can always ask yourself.

Where are the secret levels? OK, I guess Ducks has been around for long enough now to say where the secrets are... but, rather than going into detail here, there's a new secrets and lies page.

Where can I download extra levels? Well, there are plenty available - all available from the Ducks add-ons page.

How do I get these add-ons to work? Ducks add-ons end in the extension .EGG - if you have a file which doesn't end in this extension which is supposed to be a Ducks data file, see the next few questions. If it's currently stored elsewhere, move or copy the add-on to your Eggs directory (probably C:\Program Files\Games\Ducks\Eggs) and then run the Egg Selector program. If you don't have the Ducks group in your Start menu, it's called PickEggs.exe and it's in the same folder as the Ducks program itself. Select the add-on from the list. You can load up to 5 files at a time. Hit ESCAPE to quit, making sure you save your changes. Now run the Ducks program, and the add-on will be loaded.

How do I get an .EGG file out of a .ZIP file? If you have a file which ends in .ZIP, double-click it and WinZip (or a similar program) should start (if not, you'll need to download one). You should see a list of the contents of the file... one of these should end in .EGG. Select it, press Extract and choose the directory where you want to place the .EGG file (see question 2).

How do I get an .EGG file out of an .EXE file? An .EXE file is a program, and can do anything. Only run it if you're sure you know what it is. If you double-click the file, the program will start, and will probably ask where you want to extract the contents of the file. Choose your Eggs directory (see question 2).

How do I get an .EGG file out of an .MSI file? An .MSI file is a Microsoft Installer archive. If you have Microsoft Installer on your machine, double-click the file and the program should start automatically. If not, you can either download Microsoft Installer or look on the site where you found the file for a .ZIP or .EXE version of the same add-on.

How do I get an .EGG file out of some other type of file? Ducks data files are unlikely to be distributed in any other type of file than those mentioned above. It may be that the download failed, it may be that Windows is hiding your filename extensions, or it may be that the file is a different type of archive (such as an .ARJ file), in which case you will need to find an appropriate decompression utility. Or just contact the person who decided to use the file format in question and have a go at them for being wierd.

How can I make my own Ducks levels? You'll need to get your hands on the Ducks Editor Suite.

When will Ducks II be released? Oh, come on! It's only an idea at the moment... no work's been started at all. Nothing. There's one page - just one page - of scribbles at the moment. I'll scan it and make it available here, if pestered. Actually, no, I won't.
